About Julie Stevens

Julie Stevens began performing at age nine when she was cast as Tessie in the 3rd National Tour of ANNIE. She then joined the final Broadway Cast as Pepper until the show closed after 2,377 performances.

Julie went on to earn a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and received a master’s degree in Education from Bank Street College. She was able to utilize her acting skills and teaching degree while working as a teaching artist for many well-known theatre companies in New York. She has been an on-set Studio Teacher/Welfare Worker for professional children working film and television for over 25 years (www.educatingyoungstars.com). Julie is a longtime advocate of child performers and is passionate about ensuring that they all receive a quality education while working professionally.

After moving to Los Angeles, Julie combined her acting and teaching skills, along with an entrepreneurial spirit, to create a motivational deck of cards for performing artists, called ACTING OUTSIDE THE BOX, which was available online and in specialty bookstores nationwide.

In 2000, Julie launched ANNIEORPHANS.COM, hoping to re-connect with her fellow cast members online. The website quickly became the premiere ANNIE site for cast members and fans worldwide and was the inspiration for her award-winning documentary film, LIFE AFTER TOMORROW. The film won Best Director and Best Documentary Awards at the 2006 Phoenix Film Festival and was the Official Selection at 9 other prestigious festivals around the country. LIFE AFTER TOMORROW premiered on SHOWTIME in 2007 and was released on DVD. LIFE AFTER TOMORROW was a featured segment on the news show, “20/20,” as well as in a full-page article in the Sunday Arts & Leisure section of the New York Times. (www.lifeaftertomorrow.com)

Julie was one of 20 filmmakers selected for an international cultural exchange program, AFI Project: 20/20. The program was a component of the U.S.’s new Global Cultural Initiative that brought together AFI, the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the U.S. Department of State, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. In 2007, she traveled to Kuwait as a Cultural Envoy to screen LIFE AFTER TOMORROW as part of the first American Film Festival. Julie was also invited by the National Endowment for the Arts to judge grant applications on their Arts on Radio and Television panel.

In 2004, Julie opened a talent management company in Los Angeles, guiding the careers of child actors and young adults. Her clients appear regularly in film, television, voiceovers, and theatre.

As a performer, her singing voice can be heard as Erika in the animated feature film, THE PRINCESS AND THE PAUPER, Cheer Bear in CARE BEAR LIVE, and My Little Pony. Julie continues to work in theatre, film, and television in Los Angeles. Julie is a longtime member of the Director’s Guild, SAG-AFTRA, Actor’s Equity Association, and IATSE Local 884.
